Mercedes starts to sell a home battery of solar energy

Large rechargeable batteries can store up to 20 kWh of solar energy. Now some car manufacturers are not only engaged in developing a new transport, but also create innovative solutions to store electricity in homes. So, one of the developments of Tesla is home battery Powerwall, and the German automaker Mercedes-Benz offered its own system for electricity storage.

Despite the fact that the new batteries from Mercedes-Benz will be incorporated in the house, it all began with the automotive segment of the company. Elements of battery were designed by ACCUmotive – an affiliated company of Daimler, responsible for creating batteries for hybrid Mercedes cars. Only now these technologies will be used to store energy generated by solar panels or wind turbines. A new energy storage system includes compact blocks, which contains 2,5 kWh of electricity. Eight blocks can be combined in a common system, ensuring the house supply of electricity of 20 kWh. In its turn, Tesla offers homemade batteries with a capacity of 7.5 and 10 kWh.

According to representatives of Mercedes-Benz, installation of the home battery may increase the consumption of self-generated energy by 65 percent, and the ability to store this energy makes such systems even more attractive.

Now Mercedes-Benz has already begun to implement the system, involving houses in Germany. In partnership with some German energy companies Mercedes-Benz provides a full installation of the system. This takes into account that the components of energy system in houses can vary.
