The head of Tesla Elon Musk has announced on Twitter about the releasing of the solar roof. Later the detailed information and the special calculator appeared on the company’s website. The calculator helps to answer to such questions like how much the energy roof will cost and how much it will let the owners save.

The pre-order page of Tesla web-site informs that the use of solar roofs in regions with high sunny activity it can pay off in twenty years.  Solar Roof varies in durability, and the system itself will come with a guarantee for the entire lifetime of your house or with an infinite guarantee, depending on what comes first.

According to the company, the average price per square foot of the roof will be $21, 8 ($235 per square meter), but it is for those cases where not all tiles of the roof will be equipped with solar panels. A special calculator on the web-site allows calculate the cost savings from installing Solar Roof based on a number of parameters, including the roof area and the number of sunny days in the region. For example, for a two-storey house with an area of 2000 sq ft (185 sq m) in San Francisco the installing of solar roof costs $34300. Another $7,000 will have to be paid for the Powerwall battery. In 30 years, the Solar Roof can produce electricity in the amount of $49100. In addition, the home-owner will be able to get $10200 in the form of tax breaks.

To make the pre-order of the roofing system one need to make a deposit of $1000 which can be repaid at any time before final checkout. In the USA installation of the first solar roofs will begin this summer, and outside the country – next year.
